Richard Verma

Rich Verma is a partner at the law firm of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he practices international law and is also a member of the firm's government affairs practice. Most recently, Rich served as Senior National Security Advisor to the Senate Majority Leader, a position he held for several years. Rich also worked as Senior Counsel and Policy Director for the Senate Whip and served on the staff of Congressman John P. Murtha (D-PA). Rich is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a former country director for the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs. He holds degrees from Georgetown, American and Lehigh Universities. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and has served on the National Academy of Sciences Panel on Critical Infrastructure Protection and the Law. Rich is married with three young children and lives in Bethesda, Maryland.
